Shao Chieh & Yu Chin Become Runners-up in Singapore


The Singapore Open Superseries was held from June 19th to 24th and Taiwan's Cheng Shao Chieh (NS9900), in the women's singles, and Chien Yu Chin (ARCZSTH), in the women's doubles, became runners-up.


No. 4 seed Cheng Shao Chieh faced No. 2 seed Juliane Schenk of Germany in the final. Cheng lost the first game by 21-11, however, she quickened her movement in the second game. It became a closer and nail biting game when Cheng caught up from 10-15 to 15-15. Cheng faced the game point at 20-17, but the opponent won 4 consecutive points to lead. Cheng showed her characteristic, speedy and tenacious performance, although she lost the game, 26-24.


In the men's singles, an 18-year-old Viktor Axelsen (VTZF) won the first round against world No. 6 and top seeded Sho Sasaki by 21-10, 15-21, 21-12. He advanced to the semifinals of Superseries for the first time after defeating Sony Dwi Kuncoro (VT80) in the quarterfinal, 21-17, 26-24.


In the women's doubles semifinals, No. 6 seed Chien Yu Chin and Cheng Wen Hsing defeated Indonesiafs No. 1 pair, Meiliana Jauhari(VT80) and Greysia Polii(VTZF) by 21-13, 19-21, 21-16. In the final, they met Chinese youngsters, 6th seeded Yixin Bao and Qianxin Zhong. Taiwanese pair forced to be defensive and lost the first game, 21-12, however, they played more aggressively in the second game to earn 12 smash winners. This is the second time for Chien and Cheng to become the runners-up in the major event of this year.


Japan's Reiko Shiota(VT80) and Shintaro Ikeda advanced to the final of Superseries mixed doubles for the first time.
