Playing with VCORE Tour racquet, Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) and Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) had a good weekend to advance to the finals.
Stan competed at Copa Claro in Buenos Aires, and defeated 2 seeded players to reach the final. After overcoming No. 8 seed Albert Ramos in the quarterfinals by 7-6(4) 6-4, he faced No. 2 seed Nicolas Almagro, who is a clay-court expert to claim 12 titles on the surface. Stan succeeded in keeping all his service games against 4 break points by the Spaniard, and won the semifinal match in 1 hour 10 minutes by 6-3 7-5. It was his first time in two years to achieve to reach the final, although he lost by 4-6 6-3 1-6.
Another VCORE Tour player Sabine entered US National Indoor Tennis Championships in Memphis. In the semifinals, she faced No. 7 seed Magdalena Rybarikova, who defeated No. 1 seed Kirsten Flipkens, and got past with the close match by 7-5 7-5. It was the second time for Sabine to become the finalist in 2013.
Sabine started using PolyTour SPIN from this season and has been in good form with the blue string. She has a great feeling especially on her serves, “The pentagon shape of this string helps me a lot to add more spin to my shots, especially for my serve. I like this blue colour very much and hope to play well with this string during the season.”
