Wawrinka Debuts in ATP World Tour Finals with Victory

The season finale of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, kicked off in London on Monday, November 4th. Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97), who is the third Swiss player to have qualified for the Tour Finals following Roger Federer and Jakob Hlasek, played impressively during his first appearance, defeating Tomas Berdych in the Group A opener. 


Stan said, “For sure, it’s special to win my first match here. I feel really proud to be here. It means that I'm really playing tennis all year round,” according to the tournament official website. Playing with confidence on his first big stage in London he overcame his opponent 6-3, 6-7(0), 6-3. The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes, during which Stan hit 43 winners and saved all his service games for the victory.


To advance to the semifinals Stan will have another two matches against David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal in Group A.
