Wimbledon 2016: Into the Home Stretch

The 2016 Wimbledon Championships are heading into the final stretch, with both VCORE and EZONE players blazing trails at the tournament. Be it extra spin or extra speed, Team Yonex is impressing on the court with gear made specifically to enhance their games.

PH Serves into the Semifinal

French No. 1 men’s doubles seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Duel G 97, POLYTOUR FIRE 125) and Nicolas Mahut are into the semifinals. This marks Pierre-Hugues’ first time in the Wimbledon men’s doubles semifinal.

The quarterfinal match proved to be another tense outing, this time against No. 10 seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers. The French duo held off their Fin-Aussie opponents, breaking them 3 times. The two were also strong on their service games, excelling on both first and second serves. PH and his partner advanced with a final score of 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(8), and are set to meet the Filipino-Belarusian team of Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi—the No. 12 seeds.

Angie and Martina: Eyes on the Prize

Thursday will see heavy-hitting Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR FIRE 120) go face to face with Venus Williams in her second Grand Slam semifinal of the year. This will be their sixth encounter, with Angie being victorious three times in previous meetings.

Martina Hingis (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION L) is rocketing through the ranks in both women’s and mixed doubles. She heads into the women’s doubles quarterfinal with Sania Mirza against Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova, while in mixed she will face Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson partnered with Leander Paes. She and her partners are defending champions in both disciplines, and have yet to lose a set yet this year.

 Juniors Advance

Yonex Juniors are moving forward at this year’s Championships. In girls’ singles, Dayana Yastremska (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125/POLYTOUR SPIN) is into the quarterfinals after an all-Yonex third round against Olga Danilovic (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR SPIN/POLYTOUR PRO 125). Ukrainian Dayana hit 4 break points and 15 winners en route to a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Meanwhile, Daniel Altmaier (EZONE DR 98) paired with Jurabek Karimov advanced to the second round of boys’ doubles with a 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 triumph over American pair William Blumberg and Nathan Ponwith.
