YONEX French Open 2015: Defending Champion Chou Tien Chen Advances

This year’s YONEX French Open commenced with the ranks of YONEX’s top players producing impressive results right from the first round.

Defending champion and No. 6 seed Chou Tien Chen (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE, SHB02LTD) got his YONEX French Open campaign off to a running start, making it past Indonesia’s Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in the first round of men’s singles. The Indonesian attempted to snatch the first game away from the 2014 champ, but Tien Chen proved to be a brick wall in the face of his opponent, closing out game 1 at 27-25. The Taiwanese continued his advance, grabbing a confident win in the second game, the final score coming to 27-25 21-14. Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10, New Shoes) dominated over local Brice Leverdez, the Malaysian national hero striking at key openings and capitalizing on the Frenchman’s errors. The match concluded at 21-7 21-15.

In women’s singles, 2015 Indonesia Open Superseries Premier champion Ratchanok Intanon (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune, SHB-02LX) proved too much for Hsu Ya Ching in the first round of women’s singles. The Thai’s razor-sharp reactions and potent attacks brought her to a comfortable 21-16 21-6 win, and into round 2. Saina Nehwal (NANORAY 900, SHB02LTD) faced off against fellow YONEX player Michelle Li (NANORAY 900, SHBF1NLX). Their opening game was defined by long and intense rallies, the two players competing neck and neck. It was Saina who would end up advancing, taking game 1 by a narrow margin, and gaining a strong advantage in the second. The match closed at 21-18 21-13, with Saina executing a perfect smash straight into the back corner of the court.

Men’s doubles saw Indonesian World Champions Mohammad Ahsan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX)/Hendra Setiawan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX) execute a commanding win over China’s Cai Yun and Lu Kai. The World No. 2 pair refused their opponents the lead, advancing at 21-13 21-10. In women’s doubles  Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NANORAY 900, SHB87LTD) and Christinna Pedersen(NANORAY 800SHB-02LX) managed to move into the second round after a tight encounter with Malaysia’s Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon. Drawing even after two close games,  the Danish World No. 4 pair gained the upper hand in the final game, the match ending at 19-21 21-19 21-10. Mixed doubles saw No. 6 seeds Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE ⅡSHB-02MX) and Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE ⅡSHB-02LX) face little trouble against Korea’s Choi Solgyu and Eom Hye Won, winning at 21-13 21-18.
