Yonex German Open: Big Wins Before First Superseries of the Year

Yonex players excelled at this year’s Yonex German Open, which came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 5th. Chou Tien Chen (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION 65 WIDE), Akane Yamaguchi (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune, Yonex Shoes), Kim Astrup (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 65)/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 65), and Yuki Fukushima (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, Yonex Shoes)/Sayaka Hirota (ARCSABER 11, Yonex Shoes) all proved triumphant on the courts of the Innogy Sporthalle in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

DUORA Dominance

The DUORA 10 proved to be the key to victory in both men’s singles and doubles for Chou Tien Chen and the Danish pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. After placing as the finalist last year, Tien Chen made a strong run to victory this time around, blazing through his last three matches in straight games. He defeated Tzu Wei Wang in the final match, earning the 2017 title with a final score of 21-16 21-14.

Danes Kim and Anders faced fellow countrymen Mads Kolding (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 65) and Mads Conrad Petersen in the final, coming out on top with a straight 21-17 21-13 win. Kim and Anders seized the lead quickly in both games to claim a decisive victory. The two have seen a rapid rise through the rankings since using the DUORA 10, and now stand at World No. 11.

Japanese Women Prevail on Global Stage

Women’s singles and doubles saw great results from Japanese talents. Akane Yamaguchi made a strong run to the women’s singles final, prevailing in two matches in straight games. In doubles, the young Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota defeated a great number of higher-ranked pairs—including three seeded teams—on their road to victory. They faced the No. 5 seeded Chinese pair of Huang Dongping and Li Yinhui in the final, coming back from a game down to win 15-21 21-17 21-15.

Yonex once again acted as the tournament’s official stringer and supplier. A top team of stringing technicians from the Yonex Stringing Team was on-site to support the tournament’s competitors, and Yonex provided all the court mats, nets, poles and shuttles used at the tournament.
