YONEX OPEN JAPAN 2016: Several Straight Wins for Team Yonex

The first round of YONEX OPEN JAPAN 2016 commenced with strong victories for Team Yonex.



Leading the way in men’s singles was Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10 LCW, Yonex Shoes), powering past fellow veteran Boonsak Ponsana at 21-14 21-13. Chong Wei played an aggressive game, smashing his way to victory. Still riding the wave of their Thomas Cup victory, the Danes impressed in round 1. Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11, POWER CUSHION 65) remained cool, calm and collected in the face of Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent, picking up 7 straight points in the first game, and 5 in the second to win the match, 21-16 21-11. Meanwhile, Jan O. Jorgensen (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, POWER CUSHION COMFORT TOUR) controlled the court with his towering height against local Japanese player Riichi Takeshita to win 21-15 21-13.

Ratchanok Intanon (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 02 LADIES) advanced to the second round in women’s singles against Pai Yu Po. The 21-year-old Thai seized control of the match from the get-go, rushing to a 8-0 lead. While her opponent would retaliate, Ratchanok remained strong, proudly exhibiting her Top 10 strength to win 21-16 21-12.

The Danes would also dominate in doubles. Mathias Boe (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION COMFORT TOUR) and Carsten Mogensen (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune, POWER CUSHION 65) triumphed over Japanese pair Kosuke Makino and Dai Watanabe in just over 30 minutes. After a smooth opening game, the Danes had to contest with a strong assault by the Japanese in the second. However, the Danes excelled with their greater experience, winning 21-13 21-17. Meanwhile, Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION 65) and Christinna Pedersen (DUORA 7POWER CUSHION LTD 2) also won over a Japanese pair, recording a 21-13 21-13 win over Rie Etoh and Aoi Matsuda.
