YONEX OPEN JAPAN: Lee Chong Wei & Lin Dan Advance in 3 Games

The first round of YONEX OPEN JAPAN got off to an invigorating start with several heated matches right off the bat.

Both Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10, New Shoes) and Lin Dan (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE Ⅱ LDSHBSC6LDEX) advanced in tense three-game affairs. Chong Wei came back from a game down against Boonsak Ponsana to clutch a turn-around victory, sealing the match in his signature fashion without too much trouble at 10-21 21-15 21-16. Lin Dan’s first round match proved more perilous, playing at a game down while fending off match point after match point in the second game. After finally taking the second game at 25-23, he went on to narrowly close the match at 17-21 25-23 21-17.

In women’s singles, Akane Yamaguchi (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune) advanced into the second round in straight games, defeating Korea’s Ji Hyun Sung for the first time at 21-18 21-12. Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEEDSHB-02LX) got revenge for her Indonesia Open first-round exit against Yui Hashimoto (NANORAY 800). The two battled it out in the first game, exchanging constant match shots, drawing time and time again, with the Japanese shuttler claiming the first game with a staggering score of 29-27. However, the two-time world champion came roaring back to take the last two games, letting go of her lead only once, closing the match at 27-29 21-15 21-18.

In men’s doubles, Mathias Boe (ARCSABER 11, SHBSC6iEX) and Carsten Mogensen (ARCSABER 11SHB87LTD) also avenged a previous loss. The Danish duo gasped a 21-17, 21-17 straight-game win over Chinese pair Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan, who had won in their previous encounter at the BWF World Championships. World champions Mohammad Ahsan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX) and Hendra Setiawan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX) advanced quickly in under 30 minutes against local pair Kenta Kazuno and Kazushi Yamada at 21-17, 21-12.
