Coming off of his 40th Superseries title at the China open last week Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10, SHB02LTD) triumphed over Tommy Sugiarto (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune) in a brief 40 minutes. Tommy would lead in the beginning of both games, but Chong Wei quickly seized the advantage each time, the Malaysian grabbing a stunning nine consecutive points in the first game. The final score came to 21-16 21-15.
On the women’s side, Spain’s Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHB-02LX) faced India’s P.V. Sindhu in another brief encounter. While Carolina had to overcome an initial onslaught on the part of the Indian to take the first game by a narrow margin, the Spaniard turned the tables in the second. Tied at 5-5, Carolina landed six straight points to get up to 11-5. She would proceed to take the match, the final score coming to 21-17 21-9. Ratchanok Intanon (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune, SHB-02LX) secured an overwhelming win over local Cheung Ying Mei. The Thai carried the lead for the entirety of the game 1 and the majority of game 2 en route to a 21-8 21-9 victory.
In doubles, the Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX) and Hendra Setiawan (NANORAY 900, SHB-75EX) earned a narrow but confident win over Japanese Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata at 21-17 21-16. Denmark’s Mathias Boe (DUORA 10, SHBSC6iEX) and Carsten Mogensen (DUORA 10, SHB87LTD) triumphed over Russians Vladimir Ivanov (ARCSABER 11, SHB02LTD) and Ivan Sozonov (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, SHBF1NLTD), not being led once in game 2, coming to a 21-12 21-17 score in exactly 30 minutes. Danish compatriots Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NANORAY 900, SHB87LTD) and Christinna Pedersen(NANORAY 800, SHB-02LX) dominated over Thai pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai, maintaining the lead throughout the entirety of the match to close it out at 21-15 21-12.
