BIRMINGHAM, England – The YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2023 came to an exciting conclusion on Sunday, March the 19th as the world’s best badminton players battled it out in the finals. With a sold-out stadium, the energy could not have been higher.
To start off the day, women’s doubles finalists Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong (KOR) came in to dominate after a hard-fought win in the semi-finals against world No. 3 and Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu(CHN). The pair competed against fellow compatriots Lee So Hee and Baek Ha Na (KOR) and emerged victorious after a swift two game match. Final score, 21-5, 21-12.
Mixed doubles followed soon after in a riveting three game match between world No.1 Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong (CHN) and Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yu Jung (KOR). The pairs battled for the title, but Zheng and Huang would not be deterred from a third YONEX All England title. Final score, 21-16, 16-21, 21-12
The women’s singles final was a battle between An Se Young (KOR) and Chen Yu Fei (CHN). The three-game match was electric while these two powerhouses vied for the title. In the end An Se Young’s drive for her very first All England title held strong as she claimed the match and became an All England champion. 17-21,21-10, 19-21.
The men’s doubles final saw Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto (INA) take on Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan (INA) in an energetic two game match that had fans chanting along. The match came to a close with 21-17, 21-14.
In the men’s singles final, Li Shi Feng (CHN) faced off against compatriot Shi Yu Qi (CHN). After a hard-fought first game Li Shi Feng finished strong and claimed his first ever All England title in a two-game match. Final score, 26-24, 21-5.
