BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2016: Lee Chong Wei Leads Malaysia

The penultimate day of the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup group stage saw the world’s top nations continue to battle it out as the tournament approaches its mid-point.

The Knockout Stage Draws Near

Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10 LCWPOWER CUSHION 02 LTD) continues to lead the way as Malaysia plows forward with three victories to their name. Malaysia faced off against Korea in Day 3, winning at a narrow 3-2. Chong Wei took to the court against Son Wan Ho, and did well to fight off his tenacious opponent in the opening game. The Malaysian faced fewer issues in the second game, securing a 21-18 21-15 win in the end.

Denmark continues with no losses to their name, this time winning against New Zealand 5-0. Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11, POWER CUSHION 65) opened the proceedings with a 21-10 21-6 win over Dylan Soedjasa, while Mathias Boe (DUORA 10, SHBSC6iEX) and Mathias Christiansen wrapped things up, winning against Soedjasa paired with Asher Richardson, 21-5 21-13.

The Danish women’s team continues to make strides in this year’s Uber Cup, securing a slight victory over Malaysia at 3-2. Veterans Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DUORA 10, Yonex Shoes) and Christinna Pedersen’s (DUORA 7POWER CUSHION 02 LADIES) proved fine examples for their younger teammates, defeating Anscelly Amelia Alicia and Woon Khe Wei in straight games, 21-16 21-17. The pair was challenged at times in the second game, but never lost composure.

Thailand got the edge over Indonesia, 3-2, with Ratchanok Intanon (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 02 LADIES) and Busanan Ongbumrungphan (NANORAY Z-SPEED, POWER CUSHION 02 LTD) securing two of those wins. Ratchanok and Busanan both scored confident victories, with final scores of 21-14 21-14 and 21-8 21-11 respectively.
