Martina Hingis into First Grand Slam Semifinal in 12 Years

Tennis Hall of Famer and winner of 38 WTA doubles titles Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100POLYTOUR PRO 125SHT-PRO) is making a comeback in a big way this US Open, reaching her first Grand Slam doubles semifinal since 2002’s Australian Open.

Partnered up with Flavia Pennetta, the two have flown through nearly all of their matches in straight sets, their most recent encounter against number five seeds Kveta Peschke/Katarina Srebotnik. Despite being down at the start of the first set, the two came back quickly, securing five games to win. Energized after the first set, the two went on to take the second solidly. The pair scored 32 winners, and played a cleaner game than their opponents, who allowed more errors to slip through. The 80-minute match ended with a score of 6-4 6-3. Martina and her partner had defeated the Czech-Slovenian pair earlier in the year at the Aegon International semifinals.

Martina is making her comeback with the EZONE Ai, giving her unparalleled swing speed on the court. With its evolutionary grommet system and YONEX’s ISOMETRIC frame shape, the racquet has an enlarged sweet spot, giving shots substantial power. Hitting with both speed and power, Martina is proving that she’s still dangerous on the court.

With the US Open steadily reaching the climax in several events, there are some upcoming matches to keep an eye on. In women’s doubles, Martina’s semifinal against Cara Black/Sanian Mirza will definitely not be one to miss. Kimiko Date-Krumm (S-FIT, POLYTOUR SPIN)/Barbora Zahlavova Strycova are set to have a quarterfinal match against fellow YONEX player Zheng Jie (EZONE Ai 98POLYTOUR SPIN). Last, but certainly not least, Stan “The Man” Wawrinka (VCORE Tour GSHT-PRO) is set to face Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the men’s singles quarterfinal. They have had two encounters in the past, with Stan winning in both. In other news, the official ATP website has posted a new video on Stan. The video covers his remarkable 2014 season, as well as his election into the ATP Player Council. Check out the video out here.

This US Open still has lots of great surprises in store, and we can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
