Nick Kyrgios Achieves Incredible Win in Round 2

Day four of Wimbledon saw a career-defining win for young YONEX player Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Ai 98) as he triumphed over No.13 seed Richard Gasquet in a five-set match that lasted nearly four hours. Nick excelled in the final three sets, making a comeback from two sets down. With the cheers from fellow Australians supporters behind him, Nick came in strong with his astounding serves and intimidating forehands. The rising star managed to hit 86 winners and 21 aces—with his last ace sealing the match, and his victory. But Nick’s most impressive feat was saving nine match points and going on to take the Grand Slam match—a accomplishment not achieved at Wimbledon since 1966. Nick is the youngest member in the men’s main draw, further magnifying this achievement. The Australian took the match, 3-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-5 10-8, moving on to round three. “I played some unbelievable tennis today, but Richard was coming up with some really good shots as well ... I’m really happy I came out on top,” commented Nick in a quote from the official Wimbledon website.



YONEX player Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) has really improved his grass court performance at this year’s Wimbledon, proceeding to round three after defeating Yen-Hsun Lu. Wawrinka hit 56 winners and 13 aces, taking the match, 7-6(6) 6-3 3-6 7-5. Stan commented on his victory on the official Wimbledon website saying, “I had a wild card into Queen’s so I’ve been playing on grass for almost three weeks now and I’m feeling really confident with my game. I think that made a big difference.”

Expertly navigating the grass courts of the All England Club, YONEX player Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) won against Karolina Pliskova in straight sets. Sabine controlled the first set confidently, hitting 13 winners and three aces. The second set proved to be closer, with the match coming to 6-5 after Sabine broke two times in a row, with her taking the match using her trademark serve. The match ended 6-3 7-5. On the official Wimbledon website, Sabine was asked about her prospects for this year’s tournament and she responded, “To be honest I don’t think about it. It’s in the back of my mind that I’ve always done so well here in the past 5 years. It gives you confidence and also to have so much support from the crowd is amazing.” With that confidence, she is moving up the ranks of the tournament.

Also in women’s singles, world No.7 and Germany’s No.1 Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) defeated England’s No.1 Heather Watson 6-2 5-7 6-1, and Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) won against Zheng Jie (EZONE Ai 98, POLYTOUR SPIN).
