Stan the Man Reigns
World No. 4 Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) blazed past Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets to secure his place in the Roland Garros semifinals. His title defense remains strong, winning three of his five matches in straight sets.
Stan The Man made an explosive entrance, dominating in the first two sets. The Swiss packed his shots with potent power, clocking in eight aces and 49 winners throughout the match. In addition to his crushing power, the Stanimal was also keen at net, leaving the Spaniard without any answers. “I hit the ball heavy. Then I was able to get into the court and vary the pace,” commented Stan on the official ATP World Tour Website.
Even when Ramos-Vinolas tried to force a fourth set, Stan remained vigilant, getting the edge over his opponent in the concluding tiebreaker. The match finished with a final score of 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(7).
Stan faces Andy Murray next. The Lausanne native has won in his last three encounters with Murray in straight sets.
Local Talent Prevails
Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Duel G 97, POLYTOUR FIRE 125) is into the mixed doubles semifinal with partner Kristina Mladenovic. Up against CoCo Vandeweghe (EZONE DR 98) and Bob Bryan, the two pairs drew even in the first two sets, culminating in a tense tiebreaker. The final score came to 2-6, 6-2 [13-11].
