Stan, CoCo and Martina Secure Spots in QF

The seventh day at Wimbledon saw decisive victories in singles and doubles, taking YONEX players into the quarterfinals. All players into the quarterfinals have made it there without dropping a single set.

In men’s singles, Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) is back into the quarterfinals this year with yet another straight-set win, this time over Belgium’s David Goffin. The first two sets came down to the wire, both concluding with tiebreaks. Stan seized the first tiebreak by a comfortable margin, and rectified a tense one-point lead in the second by rallying off three points. The Belgian lead in the third and final set, but Stan the Man’s sleek backhands earned him four consecutive games up from 2-4. The World No. 4 closed the match with an exquisite forehand down the line, 7-6(3), 7-6(7), 6-4.

CoCo Vandeweghe (EZONE Ai 98) pulled off another upset in women’s singles, knocking out her third seeded opponent in a row and making it into her first Wimbledon quarterfinal. Facing No. 6 seed Lucie Safarova, CoCo’s serve was like an iron wall, fending off seven of nine break points throughout the match. CoCo broke her opponent in the first set to force a tiebreak, which she brilliantly took at 7-1, closing the set with an ace. The following set proved tight as well, moving into another tiebreak. CoCo came out on top with a service winner, closing the match at 7-6(1), 7-6(4). Her victory makes her the only un-seeded competitor in the quarterfinals.

Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) and Sania Mirza are into the women’s doubles quarterfinals with their third consecutive straight-set win. The duo advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 score, commanding the match with keen knowhow and superior technique.
