Superseries Finals 2014: Great Results for YONEX Players in 2014’s Last Superseries

The BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals wrapped up this weekend, with YONEX’s rank of international shuttlers exhibiting their best on the global stage. 2014 marks the seventh edition of the tournament, and its first time being held in Dubai. This year YONEX has been proud to act as the tournament’s equipment sponsor.



YONEX shuttler Ayaka Takahashi (VOLTRIC 80) and her partner Misaki Matsutomo made history, grabbing Japan’s first Superseries Finals victory in women’s doubles. The world No. 2 pair had an amazing run, beating world No. 4 YONEX shuttlers  Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NANORAY 900)/Christinna Pedersen (NANORAY 800SHB-01LX) in the round robin, proceeding to win against world No. 3 Lou Ying/Lou Yu in the semifinal, and earning the title after a straight-sets victory over world No. 1 Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei. The Japanese pair’s semifinal match was a protracted one, dominating in an extended 142-shot rally against the Chinese duo.

YONEX lady shuttlers Saina Nehwal (NANORAY 900) and Akane Yamaguchi (VOLTRIC 80) illustrated an astounding performance, winning all of their matches in the women’s singles round and advancing to the semifinals. Saina’s on-court appearances were complimented by spirited cheers from the leagues of Indian fans that made their way to the Hamdan Sports Complex to see the tournament. 17-year-old Akane Yamaguchi made a name for herself with unpredictable and clever tactics that gained her a strong following of fans at her Superseries Finals debut.

In men’s singles,  Jan O. Jorgensen (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II , SHBSC6iEX) persevered in the midst of cheers for his Indian opponent, K. Srikanth. Coming back from a set down, Jan managed to beat the up-and-coming shuttler from India at 17-21, 21-12, 21-14, proceeding to the semifinal.  In men’s doubles Mathias Boe (ARCSABER 11, SHBSC6iEX)/Carsten Mogensen (ARCSABER 11SHB87LTD) made it to the semifinals after winning in a close match against Hiroyuki Endo (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II )/Kenichi Hayakawa. Mixed doubles saw  Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE IISHB01LTD)/Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II ,SHBSC4LX) and Christinna Pedersen (NANORAY800SHB-01LX)/Joachim Fischer Nielsen make it into the semifinals.

There was excitement off the court as well, with Saina meeting fans at an autograph session that saw a huge reception. At the YONEX booth, the YONEX Stringing Team was hard at work providing high-quality support and stringing service to competitors at the tournament.
