Wawrinka Wins the Hard-Fought Victory

It was a tough day for 2 YONEX players on Wednesday, October 3rd. No. 7 seed Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97, SHT308EX) had  a hard match against Jeremy Chardy in the 2nd round of Rakuten Open Japan.

Throughout the match, Stan and the opponent kept their service games persistently, so it was a key point for them to overcome the return games for winning sets. Stan had more offensive performance on serves enough to earn 19 aces while the opponent did 8 times, and Stan lost his service game just once. Finally in the last set, Stan achieved one break to defeat the opponent by 7-6(1), 6-7(6), 7-5. His persistent and spirited performance brought the hard-fought victory in 2 hours 38 minutes.

After winning an overwhelming victory against Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of singles, Juan Monaco (VCORE Xi 98) had a doubles match yesterday. He and Kei Nishikori faced No. 3 seed Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky, and won by 7-6(1), 6-3.

Juan maintains positive mind although he has a hard schedule. He talked after the doubles match, “As you know, we are professional tennis players, so we are always ready for whatever Singles, Doubles or Mix. We are ready for trying to win this great week here and so just keep going both doubles and singles.”

Please don’t miss Stan and Juan in the next round at Ariake Tennis Forest Park.
