Wawrinka Wins the Tough Opener

Rakuten Open Japan started on Monday, September 1st. 2 YONEX players, Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour 97) and Hiroki Moriya (VCORE 98D, PTGSPN) met in the opening match.

Stan generated powerful shots and showed strong performance to overcome the local Japanese player although it was the tough opener for them. Especially Stan was aggressive on serves and earned 10 service aces, so it was difficult for Hiroki to break. Also, Stan made twice as many break chances as the opponent did. In the end Stan achieved to break 3 times in the close match and defeated the opponent by 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

We disclosed new tennis racquet VCORE Xi to consumers on yonex.com yesterday. With the VCORE Xi racquet, Juan Monaco (VCORE Xi 98) won the Malaysian Open title last week and we received his impression for VCORE Xi. “This new racquet gives me more spin. I felt very good at the first try, especially for spin and control of the forehand shots. I feel great playing with this racquet and I would like everybody to try the VCORE Xi. This racquet gave me additional power to win Malaysian Open.”

Today Australian Bernard Tomic (VCORE 98D, PTGSPN) faces Dmitry Tursunov in the opener and he commented for this big tournament. “Hi, I’m here now in Tokyo Japan. I have played well in Bangkok last week so hopefully I can win here the Japan Open. That would be a dream come true for me. But there are a lot of good players and try my best the first round.”
