Wimbledon 2016: Power Players Roar into Round 3

Team VCORE excelled at the All-England Club as the first half of the Wimbledon main draw approaches its conclusion. Every entry of the VCORE lineup—VCORE Duel G, VCORE Tour F and VCORE Si—was represented on the court. The VCORE series is all about power and spin—the perfect complement to Wimbledon’s fast, grass courts.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Duel G 97, POLYTOUR FIRE 125) is into the third round at Wimbledon for the first time, pulling off a 3-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(0), 6-2 victory against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur. The big-serving Frenchman came down from a set down, commanding subsequent sets with a potent power game.

The 2015 US Open doubles champ built on his doubles experience and took advantage of the grass court to overtake his opponent with strong serves and fast play. PH’s explosive serves would bring him great success in the tiebreakers, leaving his opponent with very few answers. He dominated in the final set, landing six huge aces—the last of which won him the match. The Frenchman would record 16 aces to his name across the entire match along with an impressive 50 winners.

On the women’s side, grass expert and 2013 finalist Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour F 97POLYTOUR SPIN) is into the third round after an upset over No. 14 seed Samantha Stosur. The German was a force of nature on Court 17, breaking the Australian in the first game of both sets, and had the distinction of launching the fastest serve so far at the tournament in set 2 at a blinding 196kph. The final game would see Sabine go up 40-love with a resounding ace, complimented by another to win the match. She would earn 12 aces across the match’s 71 minutes, the final score coming to 6-4, 6-2. Rounding off the trio of VCORE victories was Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR FIRE 120) and her clinical takedown of American Varvara Lepchenko, 6-1, 6-4.
