Wimbledon: Martina Hingis Into Wimbledon Doubles Semifinals

The ninth day at Wimbledon saw Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) and Sania Mirza advance to the women’s doubles semifinal, the Swiss moving another step closer to her tenth Grand Slam doubles title.

Up against Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova, the pair put up a strong fight in a tight first set, seizing it after 40 minutes. The second set proved to be more in the favor of the Swiss-Indian duo, breaking their opponents to rush up to a 5-3 lead. Holding off five break points, the 2015 Family Circle Cup champions advanced to the semifinals with a final score of 7-5, 6-3. The duo have yet to lose a set on their way to the coveted Wimbledon trophy.

Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) faced France’s Richard Gasquet in thrilling five-set quarterfinal. In a match that ran over three hours and into the evening, Stan fired off stunning backhands, taking the second and third sets by comfortable margins. The match’s fifth and final set had the Swiss and his opponent fight for a win over 84 minutes. Despite being unable to advance, the World No. 4 boasted impressive post-match figures, recording 22 aces to Gasquet’s six, and 73 winners. Stan exhibited excellent performance at this year’s tournament, winning all of his matches until the quarterfinal in straight sets.

Victoria Kuzmova (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125) advanced to the girls’ singles quarterfinals, with a victory over Caroline Dolehide from the USA. The 17-year-old Slovakian fought back from a set down, firing off 41 winners—ten over her opponent—to move forward with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win.
