YONEX French Open 2015: Lee Chong Wei into Quarterfinals

The second round of this year’s YONEX French Open saw more expert performances from Team YONEX.

Men’s singles put Malaysian national hero Lee Chong Wei (DUORA 10, New Shoes) against YONEX OPEN JAPAN 2015 finalist Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11SHB-87EX) in the second round. The young Dane excelled in the opener, grabbing nine consecutive points mid-game, moving on to seal it. The second game saw seasoned badminton vet Chong Wei start to reveal his true power, dazzling audiences with his instantaneous reactions, adept navigation of the court and remarkable smashes. Gaining momentum in game 2 and commanding in the third, Chong Wei moved into the quarterfinals with a final score of 12-21 21-17 21-14.

Chou Tien Chen (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE, SHB02LTD) continued his title defense, triumphing in a see-saw outing with Hong Kong’s Wing Ki Vincent Wong. Despite being led by seven points in the first game, the Taiwanese No.1 expertly earned nine consecutive points to edge out a win in the opener. His opponent would draw even in the second game, leading into a third that saw a fierce exchange of points until 10-10. It was at that point where Tien Chen took control, advancing into the quarterfinals with a final score of 21-18, 13-21, 21-16.

Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEEDSHB-02LX) is into the women’s singles quarterfinals, exhibiting her trademark power and tenacity against Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour. After grabbing game 1 with a constant lead, the Scot fired back, levelling the match in the second. The decider saw both women exchange big leads over the other, but it was the two-time World Champion who made it forward, with a final score of 21-15, 7-21, 21-16. Indian No. 1 Saina Nehwal (NANORAY 900, SHB02LTD) avenged two previous losses to Minatsu Mitani (ARCSABER 9FL) in round 2 with fluid movement and devastating power, grabbing the final point with a ferocious smash, advancing at 21-19 21-16.
