YONEX Stars Crowned All England Championships

Lee Chong Wei (VTZF2, SHB01LTD) has been crowned YONEX All England Open Champion after defeating Chen Long from China in today’s final.

Chong Wei, playing in his fifth straight All England final, wanted to avenge last year’s defeat to Long and become a three time Champion. The Malaysian was determined and focused in the early exchanges, dominating Long with a destructive display of powerful smashes, shocking his Chinese opponent. Chong Wei continued his dominance through out Game 1 and swiftly made his way to victory, taking it 21-13.

Maintaining that pace into the second game as the World No. 1 took a stronghold over Long, who struggled against Chong Wei’s aggression and accuracy. Chong Wei, staying in front, looked formidable in Game 2, and despite a late rally from Long, sealed the victory in straight games 21-13, 21-18 to take the Championship in front of the sold out National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Congratulations to Lee Chong Wei who now takes his place in history as one of the greatest badminton players of all time and three time YONEX All England Open Champion.

It was double’s delight for YONEX ambassadors Mohammad Ahsan (ARC-FB, SHB87LTD) and Hendra Setiawan (NR800, SHBF1NLTD) who have been crowned YONEX All England Open Badminton Men’s Doubles Champions. World No. 1’s Ahsan and Setiawan faced World No. 2 duo Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa in today’s final in front of a packed National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

In a closely contested match, Ahsan and Setiawan settled quickly, playing with real poise and precision to move their opponents around the court. The Indonesian pair was clinical in their attack and took the first game 21-19. Game 2 started in similar circumstances, with the World No. 1’s showcasing their brilliant net play in both attack and defense. Endo and Hayakawa, who kept within touching distance throughout, had no response to Ahsan and Setiawan’s cutting edge. The Indonesian’s drive shots took the game away from the Japanese duo as they dominated the Championship 21-19, 21-19.

Congratulations to Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan who capture their first YONEX All England Championship and become the latest YONEX ambassadors to claim their place in All England history.
