The No.1 Court was the stage to a faceoff between Roland Garros champions, as Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) went up against Francesca Schiavone. As expected, it was a tight match for the two, with the first set running at 52 minutes. The two played neck and neck, with service breaks coming from each side. The first set came to a tie-breaker, with Ana emerging as the winner. The second set was a clear win for Ana, hitting 12 winners against her opponent’s five, as well as scoring two aces. Ana took the match in straight sets 7-6(6) 6-4.
In men’s singles, Stanislas Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) took a triumphant step forward into round 2 after beating Joao Sousa. Stan’s game proved to be too much for his opponent, as he scored an impressive 18 aces and hit four break points while his opponent was unable to hit either. The final score was 6-3 6-4 6-3. Wawrinka had this to say about his future matches on the official Wimbledon website, “I know that I can make some damage here, but I need to be focused for the next one.”
Day two was also host to fine performances from younger members of the YONEX family, with Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Ai 98) defeating Stephane Robert 7-6(2) 7-6(1) 6-7(6) 6-2 Donna Vekic (VCORE Xi 100) defeating the 21st seed Roberta Vinci 6-4 4-6 6-4, and Belinda Bencic (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR HS 125) beating Magdalena Rybarikova 2-6 6-3 6-3.
