Men’s singles saw Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) put on a very strong performance against American Steve Johnson (VCORE SV 98) to make it through to the third round. The Swiss’ VCORE Duel G gave birth to ferocious serve power, producing 11 aces across the match’s 1 hour and 51 minutes. The last of these aces set up Stan’s match up point, which he would proceed to convert, winning with a final score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Stanimal also picked up points with his trademark backhand and potent forehand, recording 46 winners to his name.
On her 29th birthday, World No. 1 Angelique Kerber (VCORE, POLYTOUR FIRE 120) advanced to the third round against fellow German Carina Witthoeft. In the three-set encounter, Angie remained calm in the decider with a rock solid defense to prevail with a final score of 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-2. Upon her second-round victory, the whole stadium came together to sing happy birthday for the defending champion.
