Strong start for Team Yonex at the 2024 Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Kicking off the 2024 world tour series, the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2024 came to an exciting close on Sunday, January 14th. The competition featured world-class athletes displaying extraordinary prowess on the court. The finalists showcased a dazzling array of shots, combining powerful smashes with delicate drop shots, demonstrating their versatility and tactical acumen. Overall, a strong start of the year for Team Yonex.

 

To kick off finals day, veteran mixed doubles pair, Arisa Higashino and Yuta Watanabe (JPN) took on up-and-coming pair, Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun (KOR). Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun, eager to claim their first 1000 level super series, fought valiantly but Arisa Higashino and Yuta Watanabe’s experience and seamless teamwork took the match at 21-18, 21-15.

 

Women’s singles followed the doubles match with An Se Young (KOR) facing off against Tai Tzu Ying (TPE). The two evened each other out with matching scores in the first two games but in a hard fought third game, An Se Young came out on top with a final score of 10-21, 21-10, 21-18.

 

In women’s doubles Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning (CHN) took on compatriots Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu (CHN). Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning, having won their first super series 750 title last year at the French Open, were determined to climb the steps to their first 1000 title. The pair finished in two games for a final score of 21-18, 21-18.

 

In men’s doubles, with a strong sweep of titles in 2023, Wang Chang and Liang Wei Keng (CHN) and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (IND) faced off in a thrilling three game match. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the pairs engaged in intense rallies, pushing each other to the limits. Rankireddy and Shetty started off strong claiming the first match quickly, but Wang Chang and Liang Wei Keng were determined to add another title to their recent upward mobility. The Chinese pair claimed the final two games with an overall score of 9-21, 21-18, 21-17.
