US Open 2016: Angelique Kerber Books Spot in Final

Shortly after being named the new World No. 1Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR FIRE 120) booked her place in the US Open with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Caroline Wozniacki.

Angie wasted no time in grabbing a 4-0 lead in the opening set. The German was sharp on her feet and wits, staying strong and resolute even when Wozniacki attempted to close the gap. Angie kept the aggression high, snatching up winners and putting heavy pressure on her opponent. Angie was a brick wall in the face of Wozniacki’s attacks, and kept the Dane running around the court looking for answers. A pivotal break point would spell victory for the newly-appointed World No. 1, and advance her into the final match on Saturday against Karolina Pliskova.

Meanwhile in men’s singles, World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) heads into the semifinal on Day 12 against Japanese Kei Nishikori. He holds a 3-2 win-loss record against the World No. 7.

In boys’ singles, No. 13 seed Nicola Kuhn (EZONE DR 98, POLYTOUR PRO 125/POLYTOUR SPIN) of Spain advanced to the semifinals with a win over Yshai Oliel, 6-3, 6-2. In girls’ singles, Viktoria Kuzmova (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125) defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the third round.
