Strong Resolve and Super Serves into Round 3
Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) proved his 2-time-Grand-Slam champ prowess in the second round of the US Open, soundly holding off an assault from Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi. The No. 3 seed brilliantly dominated in the first set, rounding it off with an ace. Stan cranked up the aggression in the second set, reeling off three games from a 5-2 deficit to draw even. The Swiss forced a tiebreak, proceeding to brilliantly secure the first two sets.
The Stanimal remained resolute in the third set, saving a barrage of break points, and would win the match after forcing a forehand error on Giannessi. Stan the Man fired off 57 winners en route to his 6-1, 7-6(4), 7-5 victory. He faces Daniel Evans of the UK in round 3.
The second round at the US Open also saw super serves on the part of Australian Nick Kyrgios (EZONE DR 98, POLYTOUR PRO 120) in his match against Horacio Zeballos. The No. 14 seed landed 27 aces and boasted a 94% first-serve win percentage. Dominating the court with his fierce service game, he took the first set with an ace that clocked in at blazing 125 mph. With 48 winners to his name, Nick advanced to the second round in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
With this win, Nick has advanced to the third round at every single Grand Slam this year.
